The Perhentian Islands are located around 20 km from Kuala Besut on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Terengganu.
Boat To Perhentian Islands
The Islands can be reached by speedboat, and all boats to Perhentian Island depart from Jetty Kuala Besut
Boat transfer from Kuala Besut to the Perhentian Island available between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm with no fixed departure times but they could leave as soon as there are enough passengers. The trip takes 30-45 minutes. The boats will drop you at the jetty nearby your resort. If there is no jetty at your resort/beach, the boat will drop you in shallow water or you need to take another boat (small boat) with minimal fare (RM 2)

Slow fishing boats are also sometimes available, but need to be chartered. The cost around RM 300 per trip and it takes up to 2 hours to reach the island.
For the return journey, the speed boats are scheduled to leave the Island thrice daily at 8:00 am, 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm. However, departure and leaving times for group packages can be arranged. You need to inform the resort your departure time. The resort will contact the boat to pick up you at the specific time ( 8.00 am, 12.00 pm or 4.00 pm).
All travelers to the islands also need to pay RM5 for Marine Park Conservation Charge ticket. This ticket valid for 3 days, but in practice it is never asked for it and it valid for the length of your stay. The ticket must be paid at the office in the jetty Kuala Besut.
Getting to Kuala Besut
By Road - Drive
From Kuala Lumpur > take E8 KL Karak Highway and East Coast Expressway (ECE) / Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT) in direction of Kuantan. The ECE/LPT connected with ECE 2/ LPT 2 and follow the signs all along the way to Kuala Terengganu. and Lebuhraya Pantai timur 2 (LPT 2). From Kuala Terengganu (ECE2/LPT2) take either road 3 (coastal road) or road 14 (Jerteh and Kuala Besut)

From Singapore > From Johore Baharu, take PLUS Highway and exit at Yong Peng. Continue to Route 1 Jalan Besar to Segamat, Route 12 Segamat-Kuantan Highway and MEC Expressway. Continue to E8 East Coast Expressway (ECE) / Lebuhraya Pantai Timur in direction of Kuantan and Kuala Terengganu. From Kuala Terengganu exit from ECE2/LPT2 take either road 3 (coastal road) or road 14 (Jerteh and Kuala Besut)

From Pulau Pinang > Take route 4 East-West Highway Highway towards Kota Bharu via Grik and Jertih. From Kota Bharu, prceed to route 3 in direction to Jerteh and Kuala Besut.

For those who travel by car, parking is available at Kuala Besut Jetty. Parking rate normally RM 7 - RM 10 per day.
By Road - Bus Express
Express bus services are available to Jerteh, which is the nearest bus terminal to Kuala Besut Jetty from :
- Kuala Lumpur ( Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, TBS ) - 7.5 hours
- Johor Baharu - 9 hours
- Singapore - 9.5 hours
- Peneng - 6 hours
Travelling from Jerteh to Kuala Besut takes about 25 minutes. Taxi are easily available from Jerteh Bus Terminal to Kuala Besut Jetty.
Overnight coach depart around 9 pm daily and kindly confirm the departure time with the bus company.
By Train
Overnight train with sleeping berths are available from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bharu, Singapore, and Taman Negara to Kelantan. The recommended disembarking point is at Tanah Merah. And, followed by another 45 minutes of land transfer to Kuala Besut Jetty. Overnight coach or train will arrive at Tanah Merah Train Station early morning, giving sufficient time for passengers to depart on the boat before noon.
By Plane
The nearest airport is Kota Bharu Airport (Sultan Ismail Petra) in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The land transfer from Kota Bharu to Kuala Besut takes about 45 minutes.
Upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), or Subang Airport,take the domestic flight to Kota Bharu Airport (KBR).The flight time from Kuala Lumpur is approximately 45 minutes.
For guests from Singapore, Malaysia Airlines provides connecting flights via Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) and transit flight to Kota Bharu Airport (KBR) or Kuala Terengganu Airport (TGG).
